Kerknet2

Earlier this morning, Cardinal Godfried Danneels officially launched the renewed portal of the Flemish Church, KerkNet.be, at a press conference in Mechelen. The journalists present were reportedly glad to have made the right choice by not attending the TechCrunch40 conference and opting for Danneels’ announcement instead. Instead of having to sit through countless presentations of start-ups with dumb names and no business model, they were treated to a presentation of the massively overhauled KerkNet.be website, the first redesign since its pioneering inception in 1995.

All kidding aside, I was actually surprised to learn that the website features a blog by the Cardinal himself (although they call it a “blog-page” and you have to register in order to place comments), multiple RSS feeds with national and international items from the Christian world, a Windows Vista Gadget, a Mac OSX Widget, polls, a webshop and a customizable calendar. Excellent work from Resilion as far as I’m concerned; although it’s surprising that they didn’t build in more social networking features.

Extra caveat: there’s also a weekly podcast, aptly dubbed GODPOD.

Could this be some kind of trend?
